Aleck Bovick came out as a member of the LGBTQ community, recalling how she finally embraced her sexuality at 39 years old after pushing it aside since when she was younger.

The 40-year-old actress made the revelation in an interview with actress Mikee Quintos in an episode of the latter’s show “Lutong Bahay” on Thursday, Feb. 6.

“Sabi niyo na for a while, nahirapan kayong hanapin ‘yung identity niyo; na last year lang, at 39 years old niyo lang nahanap talaga ‘yung sexuality niyo,” Quintos said, prompting the conversation on the matter.

Bovick admitted in response, “Bata pa lang kasi ako meron na akong nafi-feel, napapansin sa sarili ko, pero hindi ko siya in-entertain. Tuloy-tuloy lang the way akong kumilos, the way akong pumorma, the way akong magsalita.”

However, Bovick felt “something missing” prior to turning 40.

“Sabi ko, ‘Mag-40 na ako, parang there’s something missing.’ Hindi ko alam [kung] ano ‘yun. So parang hinahanap mo, ‘Anong mali? Parang may kulang,'” she continued.

Bovick, who is also a mom, further admitted that she initially struggled “accepting” her sexuality as she thought of what other people would say.

In a scary scene last Saturday, Bravo was stretchered off the court after laying unconscious following a head-to-head collision with an Arellano player in the fourth quarter of the Pirates’ loss to the Chiefs. He snapped out of consciousness at the Filoil EcoOil Arena dugout and was brought to nearby Cardinal Santos Medical Center where he underwent a CT scan.

“Noong una, [parang sabi ko], ‘Totoo ba? Ang tanda ko na ha. Ano na lang sasabihin nila? Paano ‘yung ganito? Totoo ba ‘to? Nako-confirm ko ba sa sarili ko?'” she recalled.

“Tapos sabi ko, ‘E keber, kung ganito talaga ako [ay] kailangan kong tanggapin. Kailangan ko siyang i-accept,” she added.

Concluding the discussion on the matter, Quinto said she was happy for Bovick, who then underscored, “Hindi ka naman selfish kapag pinili mo rin namang mahalin ‘yung sarili mo.”
